Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a reporter for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has earned a bachelor's degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was employed as a reporter for KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976, she joined CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV located in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general reporter to NBC News two years later. Beginning in 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was named the chief reporter for Congress. She was named the chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign correspondent for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was host and an expert panelist on the TV show Meet the Press. She was on the panel during the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. In 2005 Mitchell received the highly coveted Goldsmith Career Award for Excellence in Journalism from the John F. Kennedy School of Government and in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association (RTNDA) awarded Mitchell with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award for her work in the defense and protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began covering the White House for NBC News between 1981 and 1988 during the entirety of Ronald Reagan's presidency. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of important stories including the Iran Contra scandal, fiscal tax reforms, and arms control. She traveled with Ronald Reagan many times for summits, and to discuss issues like and the Iran Contra controversy.
